Welcome to Roaring Rapids Ranch Bible Studies

Welcome to this companion Bible study on Acts 16:11–15 and 40. Paul and his companions traveled from Troas to Samothrace, Neapolis, and then Philippi, a leading city of Macedonia and a Roman colony. On the Sabbath, they went outside the city gate to the riverside, where they expected to find a place of prayer.

There Paul spoke to Lydia and the other women who had gathered. Lydia was from Thyatira, a seller of purple goods, and a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to Paul’s message. She and her household were baptized, and she welcomed Paul and his companions into her home.

Paul and Lydia at Philippi

Acts 16 shows how prayer, the truth about Jesus, and the work of the Holy Spirit came together beside the river at Philippi.

• A Place of Prayer — On the Sabbath, Paul and his companions went outside the gate to the riverside and spoke to the women who had gathered there.
• The Lord Opened Lydia’s Heart — Lydia heard Paul, and the Lord enabled her to pay attention, understand, and believe the good news about Jesus.
• Baptism and Hospitality — Lydia and her household were baptized. She then urged Paul and his companions to stay in her home.
• Encouragement Before Departure — After Paul and Silas were released from prison, they visited Lydia, encouraged the believers, and then departed.

Pecan Pie and New Trails (Chapter 49)

In Chapter 49, friends gather for supper in Jake and Mary’s new home. Around the table, they give thanks for the Lord’s blessings and speak about the changes ahead. Colt and Alice plan to build a ranch farther west. Hank may become the new Range Boss. Eli and Sophi will marry and join Bern and his wife in Oklahoma Territory. Cole will keep painting and may illustrate Eli’s stories. Though their trails will soon lead in different directions, the meal reminds them that the Roaring Rapids Ranch has made strangers into family.

Acts 16 shows Lydia welcoming Paul and his companions into her home after the Lord opened her heart to the truth. Her faith quickly became hospitality and service. Jake and Mary’s table reflects that same generous spirit. Their new house becomes more than a place to live. It becomes a place where friends are welcomed, encouraged, and strengthened before beginning new work and traveling new trails.

Before Paul and Silas left Philippi, they returned to Lydia’s home and encouraged the believers. In Chapter 49, Jake, Mary, Bern, Cole, Eli, and the others also encourage one another before some remain and others depart. The Lord often uses a faithful home, a shared meal, grateful conversation, and loving fellowship to prepare His people for what comes next.
